PRUNING TREES AND SHRUBS: Never make the cut flush with the tree trunk. Always leave a small collar to help heal the tree from the wound. Also, it's not advisable to dress the wound with paint as this tends to slow down the healing process and leaves the tree vulnerable to insects and disease.
